Your wild-haired, introverted, chronic spiller, all-black wearer, music-obsessed, thrift store frequenter, all-the-emotions-feeler, chocolate-loving new best pal!
When Morgan and Daniel reached out about having their engagement session at a record store in Minnesota, I was SO pumped. As a huge music fan, this type of session was a dream come true for me. These two sweeties also love emo bands, and as an elder emo myself I couldn’t wait to spend time together.
Choosing the Right Minnesota Record Store
There are a ton of awesome record stores in Minnesota. This is great for music lovers like me, but presented a bit of a challenge in choosing one for their session. If you’re indecisive like I am, too many options isn’t always a good thing! We ultimately settled on South Metro Music in Burnsville, Minnesota and I’m so glad we did. Morgan and Daniel were comfortable in this location as they’d visited several times and knew the owner well. South Metro has a better selection for the types of music they like, so they knew they’d find a few records to purchase during our time there. This shop also didn’t require a photography fee, which made it a no-brainer option.
South Metro Music
Our session was my first time visiting South Metro, and I quickly found out why it’s Morgan and Daniel’s favorite. The owner was so easy to work with, which is always a plus. He let us come in before the shop opened and gave us free rein of the space. This was great because we got to hang out without interrupting other customers, and it gave us a chance to take our time and even spend some time behind the counter. The shop’s vast collection of emo and punk made it easy for Morgan and Daniel to pick their favorite albums to include.
An emo engagement session wouldn’t be complete without recreating the iconic Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge cover. I’m still very obsessed with My Chemical Romance, so this is easily one of my favorite photos ever!
I also love the shop’s grungy aesthetic and natural light. And with the eclectic posters and the backdrop of vinyls, these visual elements make the shop such a unique place to shoot. I would love to photograph here again!
I’ve been dying to shoot in a record store for forever, and this session proved to be the perfect choice for these alternative cuties.
Here’s what Morgan and Daniel had to say about their experience:
“The vibes were ✨ immaculate ✨. We had sooooo much fun and I’d love to do it again! You were super knowledgeable about posing not looking overly posed and what types of backgrounds or overall surrounding areas would look best. It was super fun and personable and you’re honestly the sweetest human.”
